PAUL RYAN is a writer, actor and singer who has also worked regularly as a presenter and interviewer at a number of public events, notably film screenings at London's Cine Lumiere.  He has written on the arts, mainly film and photography, for a wide range of publications including the Guardian, Sight and Sound, Art Quarterly, The Irish Times and The Independent.  He has conducted scores of interviews in print and in public with such figures as Sir Peter Ustinov, Alain Robbe-Grillet, Isabelle Huppert, Yves Montand, Catherine Deneuve, Daniel Auteuil, Sir David Hare, Antony Gormley, Vanessa Redgrave, Peter Brook, Jane Birkin, Willy Ronis, Robert Doisneau and Henri Cartier-Bresson.  His books include Never Apologise: the Collected Writings of Lindsay Anderson (edited with an introduction and a lengthy interview with Anderson), Marlon Brando: a Portrait and a study of the photographer Willy Ronis for the Phaidon 55 collection.

In addition to his writing and on-stage interviews (conducted in French and English), Mr Ryan has long maintained a career as a performer, most recently appearing in Lulu at the 2010 Edinburgh Fringe Festival and in the French film Venus Noire (2010) directed by Abdellatif Kechiche.  He is also a professional singer, appearing in jazz clubs and other music venues with his musical partner, the pianist Kenny Clayton.  In 1996, he was named Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Government for his cultural services and was raised to the rank of Officier in the same order in 2008.  His website, currently under construction, can be found at www.paulryan.org.uk
